In the spring of 2023, the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation purchased a 57-hectare forest in Juuka. The natural area, located to the west of lake Pielinen, along the Nurmeksentie road in Polvivaara, contains old forests, but also rocky terrain and different kinds of wetland. This expansive and varied area also has approximately 1.2 kilometres of shoreline along rivers and lakes.

The purchase of the Polvivaara conservation area was made possible through the donation of a single donor, and the area is protected as part of the Foundation’s campaign Protect a Part of Eastern Finland.
