Ahomaa

Municipality: Kitee
Protection year: 2017
Area: 17 ha

The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation owns an area called Ahomaa in the Kesälahti region of Kitee, North Karelia, the place being a conservation area split in two sections. We inherited Ahomaa in 2013. The heath section in the northern part contains forest of various different ages whereas the forest surrounding the yard land has been allowed to freely spread into the old meadows and pasture lands. Ahomaa is 17,5 hectares in area. It contains an abandoned house.

The area was preserved as part of the “My Gift to the Hundred-Year-Old” campaign arranged to celebrate the 100 years of Finland’s independence.
