New conservation area in Soukkavaara in Posio
At the start of January, the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation purchased a 150-year-old forested hill in Soukkavaara, located only one kilometre east of the municipal centre of Posio.

The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation purchased a 14-hectare forest in Kiiminki, Oulu, late in 2021. The forest is located in an area notable for its calcareous soils.
A while back the Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation purchased an area of around 10 hectares located in Juuka after the owner offered it directly to the Foundation. The new conservation area borders the extensive, untouched wetland of Kuohusuot, which is why it was named Kuohunlaita
The Finnish Natural Heritage Foundation has protected the forest on Taavinsaari Island in Southern Konnevesi. The aspen-dominated forest is a dry grove, with highly versatile natural assets.
The Natural Heritage Foundation uses donated funds to buy old forests that are in as natural a condition as possible and apply for permanent protection of their forests in accordance with the Nature Conservation Act.
